Meggie always loved ice cream – it reminded her of summer and staying up late because there wasn’t any school. She liked cones best but ice cream was also good in a cup because she could take her time eating it and it didn’t drip down the side of the cone onto her clothes. Some of her favorites were chocolate chip, butter pecan, and peppermint stick (because the bits of peppermint turned the ice cream pink.) What could be better than ice cream?
This question was answered when she went to Italy several years later and she discovered gelato. It wasn’t just the creamy taste and smooth texture that she liked. Even the presentation was charming with fluffy mountains of gelato adorned with flowers and fruit.
Soon she was looking for signs for gelato shops. This became a daily adventure in Italy and there were so many inviting places wherever she went.
After some careful thought Meggie decided that it really wasn’t necessary to choose. Ice cream and gelato are both delicious!
This is one of Meggie’s Ice Cream Adventure stories.
Yum, Gelato sounds great.

I LOVE this post. Your reminded me of those wonderful gelatos shops in Italy. And there is a definite taste difference between Ice Cream and Gelato. You had me on a mini-research project because I had no idea why they tasted different. Well – here is what I found! https://www.foodnetwork.com/fn-dish/news/2015/06/gelato-vs-ice-cream-whats-the-difference. Always exciting stopping by your place!

Thank you so much Rebecca – I enjoyed learning more about gelato! It’s interesting to know why it is served at a warmer temperature than ice cream. And I also think embellishing gelato with flowers or fruit adds to its visual appeal!

This brings back such fond memories of when we visited Italy back in 2013. I’m pretty sure we ate gelato every day during our visit. You know what they say … “when in Rome”.

Gelato is one thing … gelato in Italy is another level. Don’t that gelato displays are hard to find, but hey – who can resist passing one! An interesting trip would involve tasting various gelatos in search of the better ones. 🙂

Your post brought back a memory of the best gelato I ever tasted at Gelateria Dondoli in San Gimignano whilst on holiday in Siena. Maybe one of your photos was taken there.

That is exactly right – there were signs in the shop saying they had awards for being world champions for their gelato! The gelato there was delicious! I even wrote about it in my other blog Meg Travels…
